Au cours de la dernière décennie, l'insurrection qui faisait rage en Tchétchénie s'est répandue à d'autres régions du Caucase, en particulier au Daghestan et à l'Ingouchie. Le nationalisme laïque, porteur de possibles affrontements interethniques, a cédé la place au djihad comme principe unificateur de la lutte contre la Russie. Islam, Nationalism, and Vendetta: The Insurgency in the North Caucasus During the last decade, the insurgency raging in Chechnya has spread to other regions of the Caucasus, Dagestan and Ingushetia in particular. Secular nationalism, a potential trigger of ethnic clashes, has given way to jihad as a unifying principle of the struggle against Russia.
