Du point de vue des révolutionnaires khomeynistes, la France est un pays de type « petit Satan », une catégorie à mettre en perspective avec le statut de « grand Satan » réservé aux États-Unis. Pour les élites politiques de la République islamique, ce statut se justifie avant tout par le soutien de Paris à Saddam Hussein pendant la guerre Iran-Irak (1980-1988) et par l'appartenance de la France au camp occidental. Cette vision de ce que représente la France et de sa politique sur la scène internationale doit être mise en regard avec la perception de l'Iran que développent les élites diplomatiques françaises. French Diplomacy to the Test of Iran From the point of view of the late Khomeini's followers, France is considered to be a “Little Devil”, in comparison to the status of “Great Devil” reserved to the United States. According to the political elites of the Islamic Republic, the choice of this category is first and foremost justified by Paris' support toward Saddam Hussein during the war between Iran and Iraq (1980-1988) and by the country's status as a member of the Western camp. This view of France and of the French international policy has to be put in perspectives with the French diplomatic elites' developing perception of Iran.
