	Résumé	Chantal Biya illustre les ambivalences liées aux nouveaux statuts féminins dans une société camerounaise en profonde mutation sur fond de « désarroi » généralisé. De sa relative discrétion dans les années 1990 à son omniprésence depuis le début des années 2000, « la petite fille du peuple » est devenue la figure emblématique de la lutte contre la pandémie du sida. Qualifiée de « présidente de l'ombre », elle symbolise, par son action dans le champ associatif de la santé et de l'éducation, la face « non gouvernementale » du pouvoir d'un chef qui s'est pérennisé à la tête de l'État de cette manière en reconvertissant ses modes d'exercice du pouvoir. 	Résumé anglais	Chantal Biya: « daughter of the people » and international muse Chantal Biya illustrates the ambivalence linked to the new status of women in Cameroonian society, which is now in the process of profound transformations in a context of general confusion. From her relative discretion during the 1990s to her omnipresence of the early 2000s, « la petite fille du peuple » has become the emblematic figure of the struggle against the AIDS pandemic. Qualified as a « shadow president » Chantal's work in associations devoted to education and health have made her the symbol of the « non-governmental » face of a regime that has left her to act in the public sphere. She symbolises the non-governmental face of power as exercised by the ruler who has therefore been able to keep running the State.
