Le Gabon offre l'image paradoxale d'un pays stable traversé par des tensions sociopolitiques que la baisse de la production pétrolière ne fait qu'aviver. La « bongocrature1 » pourra-t-elle survivre à l'épuisement des champs pétrolifères ? C'est cet enjeu central que soulève le présent article, en soulignant la difficulté pour l'État gabonais de redéfinir son économie politique et d'assurer sa survie en dehors de la rente de l'or noir. Gabon : learning to live without oil Gabon offers up a rather paradoxical image of a stable country traversed by sociopolitical tensions. This contradiction is exacerbated by the decline in oil production. The question is : can « Bongo-dictatorship », known locally as « la bongocrature », survive the end of the oil fields ? This article takes up this central problem, underscoring the difficulties the state confronts in redefining its political economy and assuring its survival beyond the rents provided by black gold.
