L'émergence de deux mouvements rebelles dans l'Ouest ivoirien, deux mois après la tentative avortée de coup d'État, souligne clairement l'imbrication des conflits au Liberia et en Côte d'Ivoire. Allié de Robert Gueï, aujourd'hui décédé, Charles Taylor a fortement contribué à la création de ces deux groupes, à leur entraînement militaire et à leurs armements, surtout après le 19 septembre. De son côté, Laurent Gbagbo a recruté, armé et financé des groupes armés hostiles à Taylor, les utilisant comme supplétifs pour la guerre dans l'Ouest et leur donnant toute latitude pour attaquer les positions de Charles Taylor à proximité de la frontière commune. The Western Ivory Coast : a liberian conflict ? The arrival of two new rebel movements, two months after the failed coup attempt, has brought in its wake the deplacement of Liberia's war onto western ivoirian soil. Charles Taylor, through his relationship with the late General Gueï, laid the ground for the emergence of the western rebel movements and has actively participated in the training and arming of these movements once the coup attempt failed. President Gbagbo, through his support, recruitment and arming of anti-Taylor forces, in particular the LURD, using them to fight his war in the west, but also allowing them to attack Taylor's positions inside Liberia has also largely contributed to the deplacement of the Liberian war.
