Il cherche également à ancrer l'Afrique du Sud au sein de l'Afrique, afin notamment de renforcer le statut de Pretoria sur la scène internationale. The « African Renaissance »: A South African Discourse? The discourse on the African renaissance, as put forth by Thabo Mbeki, seeks, above all, to legitimate the South African regime. It is also designed to position South Africa as the main player in Africa, so as to reinforce the status of Pretoria on the international scene. However, this discourse goes beyond the contours of the South African state since it willingly contributes to the production of a regime of signification that aspires to be properly African.
