Cet article montre comment un parti politique égyptien très minoritaire a pu s'approprier à son profit un mot du lexique courant, le terme wasat, qui signifie milieu, mais peut également désigner le centre politique. À travers l'étude de l'étymologie du terme considéré, mais aussi de son utilisation en discours par les acteurs concernés, il apparaît que ce nom réfère à un univers conceptuel théorisé en amont de la création du parti par un groupe d'intellectuels. This article shows how a political party that is in a considerable minority managed to appropriate a word from the Arabic lexicon, wasat, which means centre, but can also be extended to political centre. Through the etymological study of the term as well as its use in the discourse of the actors in the field, it appears that such a noun reflects a conceptual scope theorised before the foundation of the party by a group of intellectuals.
