La construction du troisième pont sur le Bosphore est un puissant révélateur des enjeux multiples qui caractérisent la mégapole. Facilitant le passage entre Europe et Asie, il sert les ambitions internationales du gouvernement turc qui souhaite faire de la métropole du Bosphore son porte-étendard. La nouvelle infrastructure est un outil de l'aménagement du grand Istanbul. À un niveau local, outre le désengorgement escompté du trafic automobile, l'un des plus saturés au monde, il permet la création de nouvelles opportunités de spéculation foncière en offrant une accessibilité autoroutière à des franges de l'agglomération encore non urbanisées. Cela constitue des menaces à l'environnement stambouliote, en particulier à ses espaces forestiers et à ses ressources en eau, et à certaines couches sociales populaires. Dénonçant ces menaces, des groupes de militants se sont formés. Le troisième pont interroge la géopolitique locale du parti au pouvoir à l'échelle nationale et municipale. Great Istanbul's planning : between global geopolitical ambition and local real estate stakes The building of the third bridge on the Bosphorus deeply reveals the challenges of the metropolis. Facilitating the crossing between Europe and Asia, it serves the international ambitions of the Turkish government, which would like to turn Istanbul into a flagship city. The new infrastructure is an urban planning tool of the Great Istanbul. At a local scale, in addition to solving congestion problems, it creates new opportunities for real estate by offering new highways accessibilities for urban fringes in Istanbul. Nevertheless, it constitutes a threat for the environment, especially for forests and water resources, and also for some of the poorest layers of the Istanbul society. Some NGOs have started denouncing these threats. The third bridge questions the local geopolitics of the party that is governing both at national and municipal scales.
