L'article étudie l'anaphore, la catégorisation, le défini et l'indéfini dans quelques expressions anaphoriques nominales de l'anglais. Il fait l'hypothèse que la conceptualisation des références est un processus comportant des étapes, que la grammaire de l'anaphore enregistre. Il s'intéresse aux relations entre défini et anaphore d'une part, et entre indéfini et catégorisation d'autre part. Il souligne tout particulièrement la positivité des catégories indéfinies et étudie l'unicité des références définies dans les expressions anaphoriques. This paper examines anaphora, categorization, definiteness and indefiniteness in some nominal anaphoric expressions in English. It is hypothesized that the conceptualization of a reference is a process with distinct stages, and that the grammar of anaphora reflects this conceptualization. The paper focuses on the relations between definiteness and anaphora on the one hand, and on indefiniteness and categorization on the other hand, with special emphasis on the positiveness of indefinite categories and the uniqueness of definite references in anaphoric expressions.
