« A Cultural Affinity, a Political Nearness. Lelio Basso, Gilles Martinet and the French "deuxième gauche" » This article deals with the friendly and collaborative relationship between the Italian socialist Lelio Basso and Gilles Martinet, who was an exponent of the French ‘deuxième gauche'. Basso and Martinet were both politicians, theoreticians and intellectuals and they were in contact over thirty years. Their heterogeneous biographies show the different values of the after-war anti-conformist Left: from the national and institutional engagement, which was Martinet's main goal, to the international Third-worldism, whose Basso was an important actor.
