L'habitat groupé, coopératif, après une décennie de renaissance dans une frange de l'ensemble social, trouve la reconnaissance à travers le vocable d'habitat participatif repris dans la récente loi ALUR. À travers l'itinéraire de futurs ou potentiels habitants de ces formes alternatives d'habitat, il est possible de reconstituer une mobilisation sociale qui trouve ses fondements dans les utopies urbaines et sociales du XIXe siècle, et revisite les réalisations du XXe siècle : coopératives d'habitants, autoconstructions par le mouvement des Castors ou habitat autogéré. Plus qu'une fresque historique, cet article donne à lire l'atypisme d'une trajectoire résidentielle ralentie pour vivre au rythme d'un collectif et qui s'inscrit dans la durée d'un vivre ensemble. En une dizaine d'années, ces initiatives localisées, diverses, expérimentales et bricolées créent un réseau d'entraide, de diffusion d'informations, puis entrent dans des processus de professionnalisation et d'institutionnalisation. Group, cooperative housing, which has reemerged in the last ten years, has found recognition as participative housing (habitat participatif), a term used in the recent ALUR law (Access to housing and reformed urban development). Through the itinerary of potential or future inhabitants of these alternative housing schemes, it is possible to retrace a social movement whose foundations lie in the urban and social utopias of the nineteeth century and influenced by twentieth century projects—residents' cooperatives, self-build homes (Castors movement), and self-managed housing. More than just a historical account, this article reveals the atypical nature of a residential trajectory, slowed down to the pace of the collective and covering the time living together. Over a period of about ten years, these local, varied, experimental and self-help initiatives create support and communication networks, and then move towards processes of professionalization and institutionalization.
