La RFA a été longtemps fidèle à un schéma de développement industriel qui, par le passé, avait amené une partie des territoires hétéroclites et divisés de culture germanique vers l'unité nationale et procuré un niveau élevé de bien-être matériel à sa population. Or, une fois achevée la « réunification », les gestionnaires de la nouvelle « République de Berlin » n'estiment plus opportun de maintenir un modèle économique si contraignant pour l'entreprise privée transnationale, dans un contexte mondial de concurrence exacerbée. Actuellement, les régions de l'Est de l'Allemagne sont marquées par un dépeuplement et une pénurie de travail chronique : la chute du Mur a entraîné l'implosion des structures (im-)productives et surannées de la RDA et le travail qui les soutenait. Au-delà de la déconstruction de la RDA, la recomposition électronique du monde n'est-elle pas en train de remettre en cause dans ses fondements économiques et territoriaux toute la construction identitaire qui avait conféré aux populations allemandes une certaine solidarité ? « Labour, Territory, Identity in Former East Germany »Since the Second World War, the German Federal Republic has demonstrated long-term loyalty to a model of industrial development which in the past had brought part of the heteroclite and divided German territories to national unity and procured them a high level of material well-being. Once « reunification » was attained, however, the managers of the new « Berlin Republic » no longer felt it timely, given the worldwide context of intense economic competition, to maintain a mode of functioning which proves so manifestly restrictive for the trans-national private enterprise. In East Germany, the collapse of the Berlin Wall let to the implosion of its unproductive and outdated industrial structures and the related labour system. These regions are presently marked by a severe decline in demography and a chronic job shortage. Is indeed the electronic recomposition of the globe, over and beyond that deconstruction of the GDR, threatening the economic and territorial foundations of that very identity construct which had once conveyed a certain feeling of solidarity to the populations of German territories ?
