Résumé anglais Questioning about intensive irrigated market gardening in the high Andean valleys of Venezuela?
During the second half of the 20th century, the explosion of the urban demand about market garden produce has strongly increased the agricultural activity in the high Andean valleys of Venezuela, thus developing the value of the production potential of temperate products of the tropical mountain environment. This agricultural evolution has led to a recomposition of cultural land, a drastic transformation of productions and an intensification of agricultural practices based on irrigation and high levels of fertilizing and pesticides input. These evolutions of soil occupation and practices implemented by farming populations are not without consequences on the environment, which leads to presume the appearance of certain limits to this production system. Today, the emergence of the notion of environment in the agricultural policy of the country but also by certain precursor farmers permit to consider the appearance of an “alternative agriculture” but its beginnings are timid…
