Wage indexation: was there a break in 1982?

Has there been a change in the indexation of wages on prices in France since 1982? This study attempts to answer the question using data from the collective national wage agreements signed between 1970 and 1988 in eight industries. The findings highlight the importance of inflation expectations in the post- 1982 period, which have acted as a more powerful guideline for wage policy than actual recent inflation.
