En croisant géographie culturelle et sociologie du quotidien, cet article propose une approche de l'habitabilité (liveability) comme fabrique d'un art de vivre situé (au sens géographique de « localisé »). Il s'intéresse à (it focuses on) la manière selon laquelle des habitants construisent leur relation à un lieu sur des usages récréatifs et une attention au cadre de vie. Cette démarche est conduite à partir d'une étude de cas en cours dans la commune de Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte (Isère, France). La trajectoire de cet espace périurbain est caractérisée par l'installation de nouveaux habitants dans un contexte de transition du tourisme vers une fonction résidentielle. À partir d'enquêtes et d'entretiens auprès des habitants et d'observations in vivo dans la nature, un corpus de données a été constitué pour ébaucher une matrice géographique de l'habitabilité. By combining cultural geography with daily life sociology this article provides with a new perspective on liveability since it studies it as the source of a localized lifestyle. It mainly deals with the way inhabitants develop a sense of place based on its recreational uses as well as on their preoccupation with their life environment. Its argumentation is based on an ongoing case-study in Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte (Isère, France). The evolution of this peri-urban space is characterized by the fact that new inhabitants settled there in keeping with the transition from tourism to dwelling. A database was created from questionnaire and interview surveys with the inhabitants as well as from in vivo observations in nature so as to draw a preliminary sketch of the geographical matrix of liveability.
