| Résumé | Empruntant à la science politique du temps, les révolutionnaires ont appliqué les principes du droit à l'invention d'un modèle constitutionnel dynamique. La notion de citoyenneté est réactivée de manière complexe pour concilier représentation et souveraineté. L'expérience apporte une réponse positive à la question de la possibilité d'une démocratie dans un grand état ; elle ouvre aussi la voie à la dualité entre tradition républicaine et libéralisme. | |
| Résumé anglais | Borrowing from the political science of the time, the revolutionaries applied the principles of law to the invention of a dynamic constitutional model. The notion of citizenship is reactivated in a complex way in order to reconcile representation and sovereignty. This process brings a positive response to the question as to the possibility of a democracy in a major state ; it also opens the path to a duality between the republican tradition and liberalism. | |
