Le Gabon est devenu depuis le début des années 1990 l'une des plate-formes de la création rap sur le continent africain ; ce genre musical y a donné lieu à diverses créations culturelles et revendications idéologiques, dans la continuité d'une plus longue histoire d'emprunts et d'appropriations musicales dans les villes africaines. Cet article examine les processus de création de catégories identitaires et d'agentivité s'associant à cette réception gabonaise du rap, en analysant la formation de trois catégories identitaires dans son creuset : celles de « gaboma », de « kainfri » et d'« afropéen ». Il démontre qu'elles reposent chacune sur des agencements particuliers de relation à des territoires, des histoires et des imaginaires raciaux germés dans la triangulation Europe-Afrique-Amériques, et il analyse comment leur interrelation et leur plasticité permettent aux sujets qui s'en emparent de circuler de l'une à l'autre au gré de leurs expériences et de leurs mobilités, en articulant leurs positionnements entre les échelles ethniques, nationales et transnationales. “Gaboma”, “Kainfri” and “Afropean”. Circulation, Creation and Transformation of Identity Categories in Gabonese Hip-Hop. Since the beginning of the 1990s, Gabon has become a platform of rap music creation in the African continent ; this musical genre has given rise to various cultural creations and ideological claims, continuing on a longer history of musical borrowings and appropriations in African cities. This article examines the construction of identity categories and agencies developing throughout the Gabonese reception of rap music, analyzing the formation of three identity categories happening in this crucible : the categories of “gaboma”, “kainfri” and “afropean”. It shows that the latters are based on special arrangements of relation to territories, histories and racial imaginaries built in the triangulation between Europe-Africa-Americas, and it analyzes how their relationship and their plasticity allow subjects to move from one to the other, according to their experiences and their mobility, and to articulate their positions among the ethnic, national and transnational scales.
