Le présent article vise à mettre au jour les soubassements imaginaires d'un objet socio-technique urbain contemporain : l'Autolib'. Sur la base d'une enquête de terrain approfondie, elle-même couplée à une phénoménologie herméneutique consistante, nous montrons que la petite voiture de location d'apparence anodine, mise en place à Paris en 2011, se révèle être un indicateur privilégié d'une dynamique macro-sociale sous-jacente : soit le passage d'une épistémè « moderne » à une épistémè « postmoderne ». À travers l'examen de l'esthétique du véhicule (que l'on caractérise comme poly-identificatoire), comme de ses caractéristiques et fonctionnalités les plus saillantes (la voiture électrique connectée illustre le topos contemporain de « l'enracinement dynamique »), nous mettons au jour les diverses modalités socio-anthropologiques qui permettent d'envisager l'objet « Autolib' » comme le produit/producteur, parmi d'autres choses, d'un nouveau « bassin sémantique ». The purpose of this article is to reveal the imaginary foundations of the Autolib', a socio-technical entity evolving in our contemporary urbanity. Based on an extensive fieldwork combined with a robust hermeneutic phenomenology, the author shows that this apparently insignificant rental car, disseminated in Paris from 2011, turns out to be a privileged indicator of a macro-social dynamics underlying the transition of a “modern” episteme to “postmodern” episteme. Through the analysis of the vehicle aesthetics (which is characterized here as poly-identificatory) and its most salient functional features (for instance, the connected electric car illustrates the contemporary topos of “dynamic rootedness”), the article interprets the various socio-anthropological aspects of the “Autolib'” and finally emphasizes the fact that this small car is, among others things, the product/producer of a new “semantic basin”.
