	Résumé	En entrant en seconde, l'élève se trouve devant un ensemble de situations nouvelles. Comment se comportera-t-il dans ce groupe humain artificiel construit sur d'autres critères que les affinités ? Quel rôle tiendra-t-il au sein de ce groupe de pairs ? Le souci de s'intégrer, de développer une image reconnue de l'autre implique peut-être des modifications de comportement, de type scolaire ou non. Cela peut donc en partie expliquer de brusques variations de trajectoire scolaire (en 2000, 15,4 % des élèves de seconde redoublaient). Une étude longitudinale menée auprès d'élèves d'une classe de seconde permet de mettre en évidence la manière dont ces derniers choisissent leurs fréquentations et les répercussions de ces choix en termes de représentations de soi et sur le plan scolaire, l'un et l'autre étant liés. 	Résumé anglais	Sociabilities and failure in fifth form In fifth form, the student is confronted to a whole set of new situations. How will he behave among this artificial human group built on criteria other than affinities ? Which role will he fulfil amidst his peers ? The worry to integrate, to develop an image recognised by the other implies changes in behaviour whether of school type or not. Therefore it can explain for the most part the abrupt variations of school paths (in 2000, 15.4 % of the students in fifth form repeated the class). A longitudinal survey carried out with students in fifth form allows us to highlight the way they choose their relationships and the repercussions of these choices in terms of self representation and on the education plan, both being linked.
