Résumé anglais This work undertakes to analyze from the point of view of trauma theory the testimony of survivors of torture from the 1964-85 military dictatorship in Brazil, starting from Lucia Murat's film Que bom te ver viva (1989). Basing ourselves on the analysis of testimony from eight ex-prisoners, we established some relationships between the trauma that characterizes the testimony of the victims and the question of identity. Thus, our goal is to demonstrate that the witnesses have political, ethical, and social relevance, and that they contribute to repairing the individual and collective identity of a group that lived at a specific moment in the history of Brazil. As a consequence, the memories of the past must not be deleted so that trauma experienced by a generation may be reviewed for the construction of a more democratic country.
