	Résumé	Les sociétés démocratiques articulent leurs dynamiques de reproduction et de transformation dans un contexte de valeurs et de croyances partagées qui constituent le prisme à travers lequel ces sociétés se perçoivent. Ces appréhensions de soi sont le théâtre de reconfigurations historiques qui orientent la façon dont les sociétés transforment la manière de réguler ce qui est dû à leurs citoyens libres et égaux. En Uruguay, l'arrivée de la gauche au pouvoir peut s'interpréter comme un signe de la reconfiguration de ce contexte de valeurs et croyances partagées, qui a mené à une interprétation plus égalitaire de ce que devraient être les arrangements institutionnels garantissant les conditions d'une égale citoyenneté. Bien que ces attentes aient été comblées pendant les deux gouvernements du Frente Amplio, depuis que les minima sociaux de base sont assurés de façon relativement réussie, on remarque un fort sentiment d'insatisfaction de la part des citoyens qui se sont identifiés historiquement avec les valeurs et les croyances qui ont cimenté l'auto-compréhension de la gauche uruguayenne. On entend parfois le reproche qu'une fois au pouvoir, la gestion a anesthésié la capacité d'imaginer des scénarios de transformations substantielles. Cela semble être un problème que la gauche uruguayenne partage avec les autres gouvernements de gauche de la région, ce qui rend nécessaire la restauration de la capacité d'imaginer des transformations substantielles de la société, sans lesquelles la gauche continuera à s'effacer et finira par ressembler à un gouvernement prospère de centre gauche. Pour cela, il est nécessaire que la discussion publique soit dynamisée par la question suivante : « Quelles sont les transformations structurelles à mettre en place pour revitaliser l'auto-compréhension de la gauche, élaborée au cours des cinquante dernières années en Uruguay ? » Source : Éditeur (via OpenEdition Journals)
	Résumé anglais	Democratic societies articulate their dynamics of reproduction and transformation through a shared background of values and beliefs that constitute the way in which societies understand themselves. These self-understandings are the scenario of historical reconfigurations that guide how societies transform their way of regulating what is owed to their citizens as free and equal. In Uruguay the arrival of the left wing to the government can be seen as a result of the reconfiguration of such background of shared values and beliefs, which led to a more egalitarian interpretation of what the institutional arrangements guaranteeing equal citizenship status should be. Although these expectations were met in the two governments of the Frente Amplio, once most basic social minima have been relatively successfully secured, an important feeling of dissatisfaction is perceptible on the part of citizens who have historically identified themselves with the values and beliefs that have cemented the self-understanding of the Uruguayan left wing. An extended account is that once in power, the government management inhibited the capability of representing scenarios of substantive changes. This seems to be the problem that the Uruguayan left wing shares with other leftist governments in the region, which makes it necessary to restore the ability to represent and imagine substantive changes in society, in absence of which the left will continue losing its historical commitments and will just be assimilated to a prosperous centre-left government. To that aim it is necessary for public discussion to be energized by the question “What are the structural transformations that should take place in order to revitalize the self-understanding built in the last fifty years?”.
