| Résumé | Cet article analyse la construction du choix de jouets par des enfants âgés de 5 à 11 ans. Nous essayons de comprendre comment différents traits sont impliqués, comment les enfants interprètent des signes à travers les jouets, les emballages, les catalogues, les publicités pour voir si le jouet leur convient, et au-delà, de saisir le rôle du goût dans ce processus. La recherche s'appuie sur une approche méthodologique originale développée en partenariat avec Toys “R” Us. Nous avons animé six entretiens collectifs. Auparavant les enfants ont été invités à choisir trois jeux ou jouets dans le magasin. Les données sont les choix des enfants et les propos tenus lors des entretiens collectifs. Le goût est la matrice du choix, le moyen de guider la sélection d'objets au sein d'une offre surabondante. Le goût met en évidence la construction d'une relation aux jouets et au jeu à la rencontre d'influences sociales et de leur appropriation par chaque enfant. | |
| Résumé anglais | This article analyses the building up of the toy's choice by the children between 5 to 11 years old. We try to understand how different features are involved, how children detect signs inside toys, packaging, catalogues, advertisements to consider if a toy is appropriate for them and, beyond this, to catch the role of a taste regarding the toys. The research is based on an original methodology developed in relationship with Toys “R” Us. We organized 6 focus groups. Before the interview the children were invited to choose three toys or games in the store. The data are the choices of the children and the focus groups. The taste is a matrix of choice, the mean to guide the selection of objects into an overabundant supply. The taste shows the construction of a relationship with toys and play at the convergence of social influences and their appropriation by each child. | |
