L'auteure analyse le journalisme en tant que modèle moderne de médiation, ainsi que la dissémination de ce modèle dans d'autres sociétés que celles qui ont vu son émergence et son institutionnalisation. Cette approche rend compte de ce qui se joue dès l'origine dans la logique journalistique. Comme l'illustre l'étude du journal étatsunien Al Hoda, la transplantation de ce modèle moderne de médiation dans d'autres sociétés fut d'abord celle d'une fonction de communication et d'une modalité de production d'un discours social spécifique permettant d'assurer la jonction entre une nouvelle configuration du politique et le mouvement des hommes. The author considers journalism as a modern model of mediation and examines how this model was disseminated in societies other than the one in which it was devised and institutionalized. Thus what constituted, at its origin, the internal “logic” of journalism can be understood. As shown in the case study of the Arabic language newspaper Al Hoda, published in the United States at the end of the 19th century, the transfer of this model of mediation to other pre-modern societies became an agency of communication and of a specific mode of social discourse production ensuring an effective articulation between a new configuration of politics and human migration.
