La grande bibliothèque de Bordeaux a fait l'objet d'un grand projet de réaménagement pour moderniser l'édifice et mettre aux normes les différentes installations du bâtiment. Après des travaux conséquents, la bibliothèque municipale a rouvert à la rentrée 2013 avec un nouveau visage. Elle est désormais une bibliothèque contemporaine qui répond aux règles de base d'un espace de culture moderne intégrée dans son environnement urbain (Franqueville, 2012) : la lisibilité, la convivialité, la compacité et l'éclairage naturel. Ce projet a nécessité la collaboration de différents acteurs : public, bibliothécaires et professionnels du bâtiment. Une coopération orchestrée par un architecte. “The central library of Bordeaux was a matter of a large redevelopment project to modernize the building and to retrofit many of its installations. After substantial work, the public library was reopened in September 2013 with a new look. It is now a modern library that meets the basic rules of a modern culture space (Franqueville, 2012) : readability, usability, compactness and daylighting. The realization of this project required the collaboration of different actors : public, librarians, technical services of the city and building professionals in a cooperation orchestrated by an architect ».
