On the basis of interviews with about twenty social workers and their supervisors, Marion Carrel and Suzanne Rosenberg show that empowerment issues in the field of social intervention are still tricky. Indeed, there is a long-standing debate in France, analyzing whether social work aims at emancipating people, or at organizing social control of precarious populations.
