Une ligne de fracture, de tracé plus confus en Allemagne et en Suisse, sépare une Europe du Nord protestante d'une Europe du Sud catholique. Cette frontière, qui s'est fixée pour l'essentiel au milieu du XVIe siècle, ne constitue plus aujourd'hui, sauf en Irlande du Nord, une coupure majeure dans l'espace européen ; malgré tout, elle influence encore sensiblement les comportements économiques, politiques et socio-culturels. L'étude cherche à mettre, en évidence les spécificités des deux Europe et l'évolution de leurs relations ; elle s'attache plus particulièrement au cas des États bi-confessionnels qui ont eu à gérer la cohabitation des deux religions. The frontier between protestantism and Catholicism in Europe. A fault line separates the protestant north of Europe from the catholic south. The break is clean along most of its length except where it runs erratically through Switzerland and Germany. This frontier, which mainly originates from the sixteenth century, no longer represents (except in Northern Ireland) a major discontinuity. Even so it still has a marked influence on economic, political and socio-cultural patterns and behaviours. This study highlights the specificities of the two Europes and the evolution of relationships between them. It will more specifically focus on the case of those states where the problems of two religions coexisting side by side have to be managed. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |
