Pour élaborer un propos sur le travail du négatif, je commencerai pas témoigner d'un embarras, – qui ferait sourire Adam Phillips (2009) – à l'égard de la qualification de « négatives » des capacités qu'il analyse ou de la « négativité » au centre de cette publication. J'essaierai ensuite de dire quelles sont pour moi les conditions de la pensée qui fondent (je l'espère sans jamais en être certain) mon enseignement et ma recherche. Je terminerai par la critique du crime et de la rationalité pénale moderne (concept emprunté à Alvaro Pires, 1998) qui découle de ces « conditions de la pensée ». The work of negative for a criminologist In order to elaborate on the work of the negative, I shall start my discourse by mentioning my discomfort – which would probably make Adam Phillips (2009) smile – with the “negative” terminology associated with the capacities he analyses, and with the “negativity” at stake in this publication. I shall thereafter try to detail upon which conditions of thought my teaching and research are based – yet there shall always be room for uncertainty. As a result of these “conditions of thought”, I will conclude with a criticism of crime and of modern penal rationality (a concept developed by Alvaro Pires, 1998).
