Pour aller à Chicago, les Anglaises suivirent les consignes données par les Américaines du Comité exécutif des femmes managers, responsable du Pavillon des femmes, et celles des suffragistes, organisatrices du Congrès mondial des femmes. Les tensions existant entre ces deux groupes illustrent aussi l'histoire du mouvement des femmes dans bien des pays s'organisant pour l'événement. La représentation des femmes à l'exposition peut donc se lire comme une typologie à la fois des histoires nationales et du nouvel internationalisme féminin. Notre thèse est que leur rencontre a finalisé la construction d'un modèle international d'émancipation qui n'était pas spécifique aux Anglaises et aux Américaines. When British women went to Chicago, they followed the guidelines defined by the Americans from the Board of Lady Managers in charge of the Fair Women's Pavilion and from suffragists organising the Women's World Congress. This infighting between the two American groups certainly exemplified the history of the women's movement in many countries organising to go to Chicago. Women's representation there can thus be read as a typology both of national histories and of international female labelling. The contention here is that the 1893 Exposition boosted the making of an international model for emancipation that was not solely that of British and American women.
