La rémunération des dirigeants fait depuis plusieurs années l'objet d'une controverse publique qui témoigne de la non-réalisation des « promesses » du modèle économique libéral (i.e. une rémunération fonction de la performance). Comme le montre l'attachement des acteurs de la controverse aux principes de la justification marchande de la rémunération des dirigeants, ce dernier continue pourtant de saturer l'espace intellectuel et médiatique. Dans cet article, nous proposons une explication de ce phénomène en montrant que cette « fidélité » des acteurs au modèle économique libéral de justification de la rémunération des dirigeants est le signe que, loin de ne susciter chez eux que désillusion, la non-réalisation des « promesses libérales » rend ces dernières encore plus désirables à leurs yeux. When the reality springs from the illusion : the strength of the liberal promises on the CEO Compensation The CEO compensation has been the object of a public controversy for several years, which illustrates the non-realization of the “promises” of the liberal economic model (e.g., a compensation function of the performance). As the attachment of the actors of the controversy to the market justification principles of CEO compensation shows, nevertheless this continues to saturate the intellectual and media space. In this article, we propose an explanation of this phenomenon through the analysis of the “loyalty” of the actors in the liberal economic model of justification of the CEO compensation. Indeed, it is the sign that the non-realization of the “liberal promises” makes them even more desirable to them.
