Si l'expression « innovation sociale » existe depuis plus de deux siècles, elle connaît depuis vingt-cinq ans une montée remarquable. Cet article cherche à situer le moment de l'innovation sociale dans le contexte de l'histoire récente, offrant à la lumière de celle-ci une caractérisation du discours de l'innovation sociale et une interprétation de son déploiement dans des programmes de recherche. L'article propose en outre un bref aperçu de certaines tendances dans la théorie et la pratique de l'innovation sociale qui répondent à une conjoncture historique nouvelle. Although the expression “social innovation” has been around for more than two hundred years, its popularity has risen considerably over the past quarter of a century. This article situates the moment of social innovation in the context of recent history, in the light of which it proposes both a delineation of the discourse of social innovation and an interpretation of its deployment in social research.
