Dans un première partie, l'article rappelle comment l'anthropologie marxiste et la technologie culturelle des années 1970 et 1980 ont tenté de comprendre comment les techniques « s'articulaient » à d'autres domaines de la vie sociale en mettant l'accent sur la part « d'idéel » dans les forces productives. Elles le firent malheureusement sans parvenir à prendre en compte la matérialité des actions techniques. Il expose ensuite des travaux récents explorant l'hypothèse inverse, d'un rôle des objets et des actions matérielles dans la communication non-verbale d'aspects essentiels d'un imaginaire collectif. The first part of the paper retraces the attempts in the 1970s and 1980s by Marxist anthropology and “technologie culturelle” to understand how techniques are “articulated” with other domains of social life by stressing the “mental” dimension of productive forces. Unfortunately, this was done without fully taking the materiality of techniques into account. The second part of the paper deals with work that explores the reverse proposition, concerning the role objects and material actions may play in the non-verbal communication of crucial aspects of a collective imagination.
