En 2009, l'Inde et l'Australie ont signé une déclaration conjointe de sécurité. Depuis lors, les relations stratégiques entre ces deux États se développent. New Delhi et Canberra ont intérêt à éviter qu'un ordre régional dominé par la Chine ne s'instaure et que les relations entre Pékin et Washington ne s'enveniment. La coopération indo-australienne est néanmoins contrainte par plusieurs facteurs, dont le plus important a trait à une appréciation différente de la réponse à apporter à la menace chinoise.

In 2009, India and Australian signed a joint security declaration. Since then, strategic relations between the two countries have been evolving. New Delhi and Canberra share the common goal of avoiding both the development of a China-dominated regional order and the deterioration of relations between Peking and Washington. Indo-Australian cooperation is still hindered by several factors, however, of which the most significant comes down to differing approaches to resolution of a potential threat from China.
