Nous assistons depuis quelques années à un regain d'intérêt pour la relation entre l'artiste et son atelier. Celui d'El Anatsui a notamment fait l'objet d'un documentaire de la part de l'anthropologue et cinéaste Susan Vogel et d'un reportage du magazine Art21. Cet article propose une immersion dans l'atelier d'El Anatsui afin d'en comprendre les spécificités et d'examiner les incidences réciproques entre le lieu de production et l'œuvre d'art. Conçu principalement comme un lieu de travail et un espace de liberté, l'accroissement de l'activité depuis les années 2000 et la complexité des sculptures en métal ont fait de ce lieu un espace de sociabilité. There has been renewed interest in recent years in the relationship between artists and their workshops. El Anatsui's studio was notably the subject of a documentary by anthropologist and filmmaker Susan Vogel and the topic of an article in Art21 magazine. This paper proposes an immersion into Anatsui's workshop in order to understand its specificities and to examine the interrelationship between artwork and its place of production. Primarily designed as a workplace and an area of freedom, the increased activity since the year 2000 and the complexity of metal sculptures have turned this area into a social space.
