Résumé anglais Links between middle and evidential in Algerian Arabic. In Algerian Arabic the middle has no proper formal expression. The hypothesis proposed in this paper is that in the renewal process of the verbal system, initiated by the introduction of the marked construction for expressing evidential, as method of highlighting the predicate, also attracts to it related values such as the middle. Considering that we are dealing with a diachronic process, we start from Standard Arabic which clearly reveals the postulated opposition between active, middle and passive voice (§ 2) and then we present what happens in this respect in Algerian Arabic (§ 3). We then discuss the question of the voices (§ 4) to show why this postulate is founded and how this opposition was renewed. In doing so, we show that the category of middle has no specific morphological expression. Lastly, coming closer to us to our hypothesis we indicate (§ 5) why it seemed justified to establish a parallel between evidential and middle. In conclusion, we note that in this hypothesis the middle does not find a specific expression because its semantics is mixed with that of the evidential.
