Peut-on apprendre les mathématiques en jouant à un jeu de hasard ? Telle est la question que pose cet article à travers l'exemple du poker. Malgré les prescriptions de certains psychologues en matière de jeu pathologique, l'enquête de terrain menée auprès des joueurs de poker montre que la dynamique aléatoire de ce jeu de cartes n'exclut pas certains apprentissages fortuits. L'administration de calculs standardisés permettant aux joueurs de prendre et de justifier leurs décisions relève en effet d'un apprentissage situé dans la pratique du jeu. En explicitant ces décisions, les joueurs découvrent eux-mêmes ce qu'ils ont appris par hasard. Leurs récits de pratique portent en effet les traces d'un apprentissage d'ordre mathématique qui parfois dépasse le cadre de l'expérience ludique : apprendre à miser sur l'incertain. Learn mathematics by chance: the calculations of poker players Can we learn mathematics by playing a game of chance? This is the question posed by this article through the example of poker. Notwithstanding the requirements of some psychologists in the field of pathological gambling, the field survey conducted among the poker players shows that the random dynamic of this card game does not exclude some incidental learning. The administration of standardized calculations allowing players to make and justify their decision is indeed a matter of an apprenticeship coming from their experience in gambling. By clarifying these decisions, the players discover what they have learned accidentally. Their stories of practical experiences in fact bear traces of a mathematical learning that sometimes exceeds the framework of the entertaining experience: learning to rely on the uncertain.
