A partir de 1878 et jusqu'à sa disparition, en 1913, les œuvres philosophiques et surtout historiques de Baldassarre Labanca, post-hégélien, resté déiste et catholique libéral, font régulièrement l'objet de recensions en France. Mais c'est son rôle de premier professeur d'histoire des religions en Italie, à l'Université de Rome, en 1886, puis d'histoire du christianisme, qui vaut à Labanca la reconnaissance des esprits libéraux, en France comme en Italie. A l'époque des dissensions politiques et religieuses entre les deux pays, Labanca fait figure de médiateur de culture privilégié, dont l'importance a été remise en lumière par un colloque interdisciplinaire, en 1990. Baldassarre Labanca in France. From 1878 until 1913 when he passed away, the philosophical and above all historical works of Baldassarre Labanca, a post-Hegelian who remained a deist and a liberal Catholic, are the subject of recensions in France. However, it was his role as the first professor in Italy of the History of Religions, at the University of Rome, in 1886, and then of the History of Christianity, which mainly earned him the acknowledgement of the more liberally minded in France and in Italy. At the time of the political and religious dissensions between the two countries, Labanca appears to be the privileged mediator of culture, and the importance of this has just been brought to light, in 1990, by an interdisciplinary conference.
