Livre de chevet de sa génération, Les damnés de la terre de Frantz Fanon a été une des références majeures de la revue Souffles, publiée à Rabat de mars 1966 à janvier 1972. Cette revue, fondée par de jeunes poètes, a vite cristallisé un mouvement artistique, intellectuel et politique qui a rayonné au Maghreb et au-delà, et s'est radicalisée jusqu'à devenir le porte-parole du mouvement marxiste-léniniste marocain. Au-delà de l'influence de Frantz Fanon comme penseur de la décolonisation et du tiers-mondisme, ce livre a marqué ce groupe d'écrivains par la force de son style irradiant de colère et d'élan salvateur, et rejoint ses préoccupations les plus intimes dans la formulation d'un projet si profondément politique qu'il ne pouvait qu'être exprimé sur le mode de la possession, un des grands modes d'expression de l'imaginaire collectif de sociétés se percevant en crise. Frantz Fanon's The Wretched of the Earth was a kind of bedside book for his generation and was one of the major references of the magazine Souffles, published in Rabat from March 1966 to January 1972. Founded by young poets, this magazine quickly crystallized an artistic, intellectual and political movement which spread across North Africa and beyond, and, growing more and more radical, became the platform of the Moroccan Marxist-Leninist movement. Beyond Fanon's influence as a thinker of decolonization and of the Third World movement, the Souffles group was struck by the powerful style of this book, which glowed with anger and a fervour for redemption. Furthermore, the book addressed their innermost concerns about the formulation of their project, which was so deeply political that it could only be expressed in terms of possession, one of the major modes of expression of the collective imagination of societies that perceive themselves to be in crisis.
