Depuis quelques années, Black Lives Matter a émergé comme un mouvement social de grande ampleur cherchant à exposer et à renverser les différentes formes de violence sociale à l'égard des minorités raciales aux États-Unis. Black Lives Matter semble original à plusieurs titres. D'abord, ce mouvement encore en formation est dirigé par une nouvelle génération d'activistes dont beaucoup – comme les personnes LGBTQ – furent traditionnellement exclu.e.s des mobilisations politiques africaines-américaines. Ensuite, le mouvement n'est pas verticalement structuré mais incorpore diverses organisations dans un réseau horizontal permettant une dissémination de voix nouvelles. Enfin, le mouvement rejette un certain nombre de tactiques traditionnelles pour en explorer de nouvelles afin de rendre visible la crise raciale multiforme travaillant la société américaine aujourd'hui. In the last few years, Black Lives Matter has appeared as a widescale social movement aiming at both exposing and challenging the various forms of social violence that have plagued the fate of racial minorities in the United States. Still at its early stages, the movement is original on several counts. First, its leadership comprises a new generation of millennial activists with profiles that have traditionally been excluded from African-American movements – such as LGBTQ individuals. Also, the movement has purposely been structured through an horizontal network rather than a hierarchical governance, allowing new voices to have their say on the matter of racial inequalities. Finally, the movement has distanced itself from traditional tactics and has explored new forms of organizing in order to expose the ongoing and multifaceted racial crisis in the United States.
