Notre contribution esquisse la démonstration de l'hypothèse que devenir n'est pas un « verbe d'état » comme les autres (être, paraître, sembler, etc.). Du fait des contraintes qui atteignent l'attribut qui le suit, on peut l'assimiler à un verbe prédicatif plutôt qu'à une « copule » ou à un « verbe support ». Devenir présente un caractère aspectuel original, qui explique ses compatibilités et incompatibilités distributionnelles, et constitue le lieu de contraintes que ne connaissent pas ses supposés homologues. The attributive structure with ‘devenir' as marked construction in the underdetermined cluster of sentences of the Noun-Verb of State- Adjective pattern. This paper is an attempt to bear out the hypothesis that devenir is not to be likened to such “stative verbs” as (être, paraître, sembler, etc.). On account of the constraints to which the attribute following this verb is subjected, it can be classed as a predicative verb rather than a “copula” or a “light verb”. Devenir's distinctive trait is an aspectual character accounting for its distributional compatibilities and incompatibilities, and is the site of constraints not met by its supposed counterparts.
