Cette contribution s'attache à réévaluer la pertinence de la notion de phrase, entendue dans un sens graphique, pour traiter certains phénomènes de liaison de prédications à l'écrit. Nous revenons d'abord sur l'histoire récente de la notion de phrase, puis nous proposons de distinguer les unités syntaxiques et graphiques avant d'interroger les rapports entre liaison de prédications et segmentation graphique. Sentence and syntax : on some aspects of integration. This paper deals with clause linkage and the concept of “sentence” in French linguistics. We claim that the modern definition of “sentence” is deceptive, as it gives more importance to syntaxic features than graphic features. First, we dwell on recent history of the term “sentence”, then we argue that syntaxic domains must be distinguished from graphic chunks we call “sentences”.
