On a regroupé sur un fichier une sélection d'informations sur les personnes qui résidaient en Alsace à la date d'un des cinq derniers recensements. On a ainsi considérablement accru l'information sur les mouvements migratoires puisque ce fichier renferme la totalité des déplacements de population identifiés et les principales caractéristiques des personnes concernées. Compte tenu de la taille relativement élevée du fichier il a paru préférable de recourir à une méthode spécifique d'analyse (Saphir). Le nom SAPHIR (Système d'Analyse de la Population et de l'Histoire Inter Recensements) fait référence à la fois au(x) fichier(s) concerné(s) et à la méthode d'analyse appropriée. A Contribution to studies on migration. Selected information on persons who were in Alsace at the time of one or more of the last five population censuses has been grouped in one file. Information on migratory movements is considerably improved as all noted population movements are included in the file and are linked with the principal characteritics of the persons concerned. The relatively large size of the file makes the use of a specific method of analysis (SAPHIR) desirable. The name SAPHIR (Population Analysis and the Historical Approach to Censuses) refers to both one -or more- reference files and to a method of analysis appropriate to the field of study.
