La construction européenne a été entreprise à la suite du désastre d'une guerre fratricide et au nom du « Plus jamais ça ! » pour garantir la paix entre Européens. Lorsque le deuxième système totalitaire est tombé en Europe, la voix des anciens dissidents aux convictions européennes affirmées est devenue enfin audible pour réclamer non pas un « élargissement » de l'Europe mais un « retour à l'Europe », c'est-à-dire une « réunification » européenne. Ce projet n'est que partiellement réalisé aujourd'hui, avec une Europe où certain nombre de malentendus et d'incompréhensions persistent. The construction of Europe was undertaken with the watchword “Never Again”, in the aftermath of a disastrous fratricidal war, to guarantee peace between the people of Europe. When Europe's second totalitarian system collapsed, the voices of former pro-European dissidents were finally heard, calling not for an “enlargement” of Europe, but for a “return” to Europe, in other words for European “reunification”. This has only partially succeeded, with a European Union in which misunderstandings and misconceptions still persist.
