Les évolutions des activités productives ces trois dernières décennies, en déplaçant les frontières de l'extension et de la compréhension du concept de travail, ont remis en question le rapport entre les domaines du travail et de la démocratie. Une critique démocratique du travail, pour analyser ce rapport, peut s'appuyer sur l'examen psychosociologique de la manière dont les normes démocratiques se construisent aujourd'hui au sein de l'activité et au moyen de la contestation de l'organisation néomanagériale du travail dans l'entreprise. Elle conduit également à réactualiser la thèse de la centralité politique du travail, selon laquelle le contrôle du travail est l'enjeu central de l'activité politique de transformation des rapports sociaux. Cette critique démocratique du travail permet d'éclairer l'une des principales conditions d'un projet contemporain de démocratisation du travail : une redéfinition du statut institutionnel du travailleur qui rendrait ses droits politiques coextensifs aux droits démocratiques des citoyens. The evolutions of the productive activities during the past three decades have not only shifted the borders of the extension and intension of the concept of labour, but also moved the boundaries between the domains of work and democracy. In order to grasp this relation, a democratic criticism of work can rely on the psycho-sociological analysis of the way democratic norms are being elaborated in the firm, within the activity and by means of the contestation of the neomanagerial organization of work. This analysis leads to reactualize the thesis of the political centrality of work, according to which the control of work is the central stake of the political activity of transforming social relations. Such a democratic criticism of work can finally shed some light on one of the main conditions in order to democratize work : the extension of the institutional status of the worker that would make his political rights coextensive with the democratic rights of citizens.
