Une comparaison épistémologique de la pragmatique formelle et de la théorie de renonciation, loin d'être incongrue, révèle des difficultés profondes dans l'élaboration d'une théorie des indexicaux. L'A. insiste par exemple sur le problème de la séparation entre pragmatique du premier et du deuxième degré, sur la prolifération des coordonnées dans les index, la circularité de la définition formelle de renonciation... La problématique de la référence, loin d'être étrangère à la théorie de renonciation, apparaît y tenir une grande place. La différence la plus profonde entre Tl et T2 est traduite dans l'opposition entre les notions d'index et d'indice. The systematic comparison between formal pragmatics (Tl) and "théorie de renonciation" (theory of uttering) (T2) shows the persistence of a bundle of difficulties in the treatment of indexicals. Do we need a clear cut distinction between first degree and second degree pragmatics? Is it necessary to equate indexical semantics with first degree pragmatics? How can we limit the multiplication of coordinates in side indices? Why is the definition of "enunciation" circular? Problems of reference are not peripheral to T2. The very difference between these theoretical frames is expressed by the distinction between index and indice. In his comparison the Author restricts Tl to an intensional form and T2 to the presentation of the standard theory of uttering as given by the late E. Benveniste. Source : Éditeur (via Persée) |
