Résumé anglais Abstratct : Over the past centuries, the Isère river has experienced a number of major floods, including those of 16 and 30 November 1651 and, two hundred years later, the last great Grenoble flood of 1859. This study examines the reasoning, methods and different stages used in preparing estimates for these two major floods of the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. Given the stakes involved in the possible flooding of a town the size of Grenoble, it seems cularly important to analyse in as much detail as possible these two exceptional events, estimated essentially from the works of M. Pardé. In addition, the present study helps complete the information on flood discharges for past events on the Isère, for which sometimes only the height of the water line was known.
