Les travaux de Pierre Macherey se répartissent en plusieurs grands massifs, selon qu'ils portent sur l'histoire des grands textes philosophiques, sur l'histoire des institutions philosophiques ou enfin sur ce qu'il nomme aujourd'hui « philosophie littéraire ». En repartant de l'ouvrage publié en 1966, Pour une théorie de la production littéraire, le présent article s'attache d'abord à montrer qu'il s'agit là de trois fronts solidaires où se poursuit une et une seule entreprise : critiquer l'idéologie sans prendre appui sur la « Théorie » que revendiquait Althusser. Il privilégie ensuite le troisième de ces fils et analyse ce que peut signifier « philosopher avec (et non sur) la littérature ». The writings of Pierre Macherey fall into three categories, depending on whether they deal with the history of certain canonical philosophical texts, the history of philosophical institutions, or with what he now calls « literary philosophy ». Starting out from his 1966 book, For a Theory of Literary Production, the article aims to show first that these three fronts are interdependent, insofar as the goal pursued remains the same ongoing task: the critique of ideology, without however adopting the foundational support of « Theory », as Althusser had sought to do. The paper focuses primarily on the third of these strands in order to elucidate what it can mean to « to do philosophy with (and not on) literature ».
