| Résumé |
Cet article propose quelques clés pour appréhender la pensée d'un auteur aussi exigeant que radical, et longtemps minoré au sein des SIC, voir dans les SHS. Après avoir précisé le positionnement épistémologique de C. Castoriadis, notamment en regard de quelques courants théoriques fondateurs des SIC, nous proposons un tour d'horizon des concepts d'institution, de signification imaginaire sociale, et d'altération. Ceci nous permet ensuite de nous attacher aux implications théoriques et méthodologiques de sa compréhension des dispositifs et phénomènes sociotechniques. Enfin, nous exposons sa réflexion sur le phénomène de « privatisation » et l'intérêt de son triptyque d'espace social public/public, privé/public et privé/privé. Tentant de saisir à travers le concept d'autonomie sociale et individuelle, l'articulation entre projet théorique et projet social et politique, nous insisterons, d'un point de vue épistémologique, sur les critiques castoriadiennes du fonctionnalisme, du déterminisme technique et de la clôture institutionnelle. This article proposes some key themes to understand the work of an author as demanding and as radical as C. Castoriadis, and long-neglected within the Communication Studies, if not in the social sciences field. After clarifying the epistemological positioning of C. Castoriadis, we propose an overview of the concepts of institution, social imaginary significations, and alteration. Then, we focus on the theoretical and methodological implications of his thinking about technics, which led to always understand it as socio-technics. In addition, we present the analysis of “privatization” and the interest of his triptych of social symbolic spaces – “oikos” (private), “ecclesia” (public), and “agora” between them. Throughout the article, we follow the concept of social and individual autonomy, which is the articulation between his theoretical and his social and political project. For the full comprehension of this core element, we focus, from an epistemological point of view, on the criticisms of functionalism, technical determinism and institutional closure.
