La politique française de réarmement de 1936 à 1940 : priorités et contraintesOne way or another, the lack of modern weapons is often adduced as a reason to more or less explain the French military defeat of 1940. A study based on sound documentary evidence of various weapons programmes implemented from 1936 shows this to be false. The French rearmament programme faced constraints and particularly clashes of class interest, but in a sense it was largely the same thing in Germany.
