La France et l'intégration internationale de la principauté de Monaco (1918-1939)Monaco a dès l'entre-deux-guerres revendiqué une place au sein de la communauté internationale, en tentant d'entrer au sein de la SDN. Mais à cette époque, l'emprise française s'était resserrée autour de la principauté comme jamais auparavant. Les raisons de cette politique étaient liées à des considérations européennes : empêcher l'accès d'un prince allemand à la couronne monégasque, et juguler toute tentative italienne de pénétration. Il en sortit une politique française froidement réaliste et non dépourvue de cynisme : mise sous tutelle diplomatique de la principauté, mais acceptation, en contrepartie, du particularisme monégasque et de son opacité politique et financière. La France et l'intégration internationale de la principauté de Monaco (1918-1939)In between the two world wars, Monaco claimed a position in the international community by attempting to secure a seat in the League of Nations. During that period, however, France's control over the Principality became tighter than ever before. The reason for such a policy was closely linked to European priorities. It was indeed of the utmost importance to prevent a German-born prince from having access to the crown of Monaco, and it was highly important too that Italy should be prevented from making any inroads. This situation gave vent to a policy of great realism on the part of France, a policy which was not devoid of cynicism. The Principality's foreign policy was under close scrutiny, but, in return, this meant accepting the specificities of the Principality and turning a blind eye to its political and financial opacity.
