Résumé anglais |
The poem entitled “Middle Passage” by Robert Hayden (1913-1980) is conceived as a long polyphonic form which narrates the slave revolt on board the Amistad in 1839. It partakes of collage since it adds discourses of a different nature to one another and of montage in the sense that this confrontation sheds light on the historical event in a polemical way. Only through the splitting of voices can history be fully comprehended. This reading of the poem, which places it in line with Modernism, can be completed with another one, more specifically African-American. Source : Éditeur (via Cairn.info) |
